SA shield   'Troops were the best' - Major Patricia Kent, Bromley
Letters Page, The Salvationist - 12th September 2009

As an avid brass band enthusiast for many years, I wish to record my thanks to the Household Troops Band for its concerts at St James's Prk, London recently.

The quality of the playing was as good at the end of the two programmes as at the beginning, and the large audience was left in no doubt about the mission of the Army and its gospel message. Truly this is a group of dedicated musicians who communicate with all ages and tastes.

Commentated a non-Salvationist regular in the park: 'Best concert of the season!' Need I say more? Keep Trooping!

SA Shield   'Memorable visit by Troops' - The Salvationist, 12th September 2009

The Household Troops Band began its summer tour with a march through Keynsham on Saturday afternoon and presented a programme in the park to hundreds of people.

On Sunday morning Lieut-Colonel David Phillips led worship when beautiful music by the band enhanced the powerful message.

The final concert of the weekend was held in College Green with the magnificent backdrop of Bristol Cathedral.

SA Shield   'Troops Band makes huge impact' - Major Clifford Kent, West Wickham
Letters Page, The Salvationist - 5th June 2009

I was not able to attend the Gospel Arts Concert at the Royal Albert Hall this year. However I was able to see and hear the Household Troops Band during the afternoon in Kensington Gardens - just opposite the Royal Albert Hall.

After some impressive marching they provided a first class programme. Something equalling touching was when Marjor John Mott, the bandmaster, invited two spectators to conduct the band. The crowd saw Bandmaster Richard Philips (Kettering) and Lieut-Colonel Norman Bearcroft at the helm. I thought this was a magnanimous gesture on the Major's part.

It reminded me of an occasion a few years ago when the HTB appeared in St James's Park, London. A close friend of our family was taking a holiday in London at the same time. He had been a bandmaster of an Army band about 40 years ago. I contacted Major Mott and asked if he would let my friend conduct a piece in the park. 'No problem,' he replied. 'We'll keep it a secret.' During the concert the baton was handed to my friend and the item received rapturous applause.

May God continue to bless and use the influence of the Household Troops Band with its distinctive uniforms, audience-friendly repertoire and quality musicianship.

SA Shield   'Band draws crowds' - The Salvationist, 30th May 2009

The Household Troops Band became the first Salvation Army band for 15 years to march through the streets of Hunstanton. Hundreds of shoppers stopped to listen as the band marched to the bandstand on the seafront, where it played to a crowd of around 500 people. In the evening the band presented a concert to a packed audience at St Mary's Church.
